At its May 15 meeting, the Soddy-Daisy City Commission passed its budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 on first reading.
The budget amounts to $15,035,200, which is an increase over the last fiscal year’s budget of $11,064,200, said Financial Director Burt Johnson.
The increase is mainly because of around $5 million in federal highway projects, which include a $2.4 million intersection at Harrison Lane and Dayton Pike as well as $3.2 million to pave Dayton Pike, Old Hixson Pike and Dallas Hollow Road from Sequoyah Access Road to Hixson Pike. An additional $500,000 has been set aside to pave side streets, he said.
The commission also passed an ordinance on first reading establishing the tax rate for the fiscal year 2014-2015 at $1.3524, which is the same tax rate as last year.
The second and final vote on the budget will be at the commission’s next meeting Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m., when commissioners are also expected to vote on a 3 percent pay increase for city employees.
