Jason Summers is determined to meet his goal of raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For the past six years, Pizza Hut has challenged its stores to raise money annually for the MDA. Summers, manager of the Red Bank Pizza Hut, has hosted MDA fundraising events for the past two years.
This year he is moving the event from Pizza Hut to Total Wrestling Entertainment, where TWE wrestlers will be joining in the fun along with roller derby girls and “Star Wars” characters. The event is set for Saturday, March 22 from noon to 4 p.m.
The money raised will pay for local kids with muscular dystrophy to attend summer camp at the Center for Courageous Kids in Kentucky, said Summers.
“Everyone’s running around chasing their own happiness, but if they were to share and give happiness to others, they will in turn receive their own,” he said.
Red Bank Pizza Hut will be selling $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win tickets to local attractions such as Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Chattanooga Lookouts. For each raffle ticket purchased, participants will also receive $1 to spend at Pizza Hut.
A silent auction will be held at the event featuring handmade candles, lotions and little bears that Summers crochets himself.
Local band Blue Steel will perform, along with several other bands that are yet to be confirmed.
Summers said he raised $1,200 for MDA last year and his goal for 2014 is $3,000.
“I hope one day there will be a cure,” he said.
