Soddy-Daisy applies for grant to replace Fire Station No. 3

The city of Soddy-Daisy may be getting a new fire hall if it receives a recently applied for Community Development Block Grant.

Commissioners approved a resolution Feb. 20 to supply funds for the matching grant, which would build a new Fire Station No. 3.

The city’s required match is less than 12 percent of the $315,000 that could be awarded through the grant, said City Manager Hardie Stulce.

“The size is just inadequate,” he said of the current state of fire station, which was built in 1975 and has issues with its foundation. “When it was built, trucks were built much smaller.”

If the city does not receive the grant, Fire Station No. 3 will remain as is until the city has funds to replace it, said Stulce.
