If you enter Tessa Clift’s shop The Lazy Daisy Boutique, you’ll likely be greeted with a cheerful hello and a cold beverage. And odds are, she won’t let you leave without a hug.
The cozy new retail shop on Dayton Pike is a new venture for the Clift family. The Lazy Daisy focuses on bringing in unique merchandise, perfect for gifts or that much-needed shopping fix, she said.
Clift said she wants to offer quality merchandise at a lower price in her shop, as well as a homey feel. She keeps drinks stocked in a refrigerator in the back and encourages customers to just stop by to chat.
“We want the old country, Gatlinburg, come-in-and-sit-a-spell-and-have-a-drink-with-us feel,” she laughed. “We want to be known for us as well as our gifts.”
And she sells lots of gifts. Various displays built by her husband’s grandfather showcase jewelry, designer replica sunglasses and lots of merchandise that originates from U.S. mom-and-pop vendors.
“We’re very family oriented; all of the family has had input,” Clift said. “And all of our merchandise comes from the U.S.”
The Lazy Daisy also carries popular staples such as Vera Bradley bags and wallets and sterling silver jewelry, but it also carries fun and funky items like R2-D2- and Batman-themed swimsuits and wedge flip-flops.
Many of the items are sold at a lower cost than can be found elsewhere, she said, including the Vera Bradley bags and a wide variety of designer colognes and perfumes.
Clift said she hopes to remain involved in the community and is even planning a family festival slated for the fall.
