The owners of Chattanooga Shoe Company are taking their focus on quality and putting it in a second venture called The Baggery.
Charlie and Courtnay McGinness are preparing to open up the Chattanooga Shoe Company’s sister organization in mid- to late-July. The Baggery will offer lots of quality, unique handbags and jewelry to customers just two doors down from Chattanooga Shoe Company’s 2 North Shore location.
“We noticed a hole in the market for bags, so we thought ‘Let’s come up with a brand-new retail concept,’” Charlie McGinness said. “It’s kind of the go-to place for handbags.”
The shoe shop has a focus on fashionable yet comfortable shoes, and The Baggery will feature fashionable and functional local artisan handbags. It will also carry name brands, including The Frye Company, Hobo and Fossil bags, with a price range from $60 and up.
The purse expertise is coming from Courtnay McGinness, who said she is very particular about her handbags. She had one of her favorite Hobo bags on hand, and said she always wears her purses until she wears them out.
Courtnay said she intends to offer her customers quality bags that won’t wear out quickly.
“Any of the lines I’ve bought have a lot of thought brought into it,” she said, adding that The Baggery will also offer artisan jewelry.
The couple is also proud of the new store space itself, which has features that were all custom handmade by Chattanooga Millworks.
