The Bread Basket opens in Hixson

Get ready to save on gas, Bread Basket fans, because the Signal Mountain-based shop is opening a third location in Hixson Tuesday, Feb. 4.

“I think it’s a great market for us to be in,” said owner Anson Hyde. “Hopefully it’s more convenient for our customers. We want to be part of your trip out to the Hixson area.”

The Bread Basket had a Hixson location from 1991-1993 before opening its East Brainerd store, he said.

“It was too much, too soon,” Hyde said, as to why the first Hixson location closed. “It was unfortunate, because we love Hixson and we love the clientele.”

He explained that The Bread Basket now has four managers and is equipped to handle the extra store, which boasts 2,800 square feet – much bigger than the East Brainerd location.

All of The Bread Basket’s products are baked fresh daily at the Signal Mountain store and brought to the Hixson location, he said.

The Bread Basket’s main product is its sourdough bread, which is well-known for its sweet flavor, said Hyde. Another signature product is the cream cheese muffin.

“It’s a big, chewy, fun mess of goodness,” Hyde said.

Other products include assorted Danishes and cinnamon rolls. Gaining in popularity are the store’s cookies and cakes, said Hyde.

“We have a full cross-section — breakfast, lunch and dinner — of bakery-type items,” he said.

The Bread Basket was started by his parents, Charlie and Marie Hyde, on Signal Mountain in 1989.
