US Pigments adds color to community’s concrete

Within minutes, the entire basement was flooded.

Nancy and Charles Ezell scrambled to shut the water off in their Soddy-Daisy home after one of their pipes had burst, but the damage was already done. They had to pull the carpet up, said Nancy Ezell.

After that experience, she decided she was done with carpet. So the couple hired decorative concrete artisan Chad Davies to pour a new and colorful basement floor.

“It’s awesome,” Nancy Ezell said. “If we have another flood or pipe burst, all we have to do is sweep it out.”

The Ezells became friends with Davies, and last spring they decided to go into business together to bring US Pigments to the community.

The company’s vision is “to rid the world of dull grey concrete,” according to uspigments.com. The business specializes in concrete colorants, dyes, stains, stamps and more.

The Ezells focus on selling their products to ready-mix concrete plants and to private residents, while Davies carries out the projects.

“We can make any color you can imagine,” Nancy Ezell said. “Basically anything in the decorative concrete industry, we stock.”

She said she just quoted a price for soon-to-be homeowners who want to build a house with three levels of off-white concrete flooring. The couple has dogs, said Nancy Ezell, and they didn’t want to worry about them scratching up hardwood floors.

“There’s so many different things you can do with it,” Nancy Ezell said of concrete. “You can dress it up, color it, stamp it, make it look like brick or tile. You can make it look like whatever you want.”
