Signal Mountain-based Caribbean Student Environmental Alliance and TenneSEA are asking area residents to recycle their used gear for a good cause in honor of Earth Day. The two organizations’ thrift and consignment store in North Chattanooga, The Gear Closet, is hosting a Gear for Beer drive Saturday, April 26 starting at 2 p.m.

“We take everything from backpacks to boats to water skis to Frisbees,” said Mary Beth Sutton, executive director of Caribbean SEA and TenneSEA.

Those who donate gear to The Gear Closet can drink free beer at the store that day.

The Gear Closet will also have a booth the same day at the annual Gear Swap at Coolidge Park, where it will be collecting and selling gear.

Sale of gear from The Gear Closet provides funding for TenneSEA’s Kids 4 Clean Water summer camps in which local children learn how to help keep the area’s water clean.
