Former Red Bank Mayor Monty Millard passes away at 62

Former Red Bank Mayor Monty Millard passed away Friday, March 21 at a local hospital.

Millard served for a decade on the Red Bank Commission and served a term as the city’s mayor.

“He worked diligently for the city,” said Red Bank Vice Mayor Floy Pierce. “He loved it.”

She said one thing about Millard most people might not be aware of was his dedication and devotion to his mother. He would regularly drive her from Red Bank to Collegedale to her church to sing.

“He loved to sing,” said Pierce. “His favorite song was ‘Amazing Grace.’”

Millard was a founding member of the Red Bank Chamber of Commerce and served three times as its president.

“He cared a lot about the city,” said Red Bank Mayor John Roberts. “When I first came into office three and a half years ago, he helped me get my foot in the door and build relationships for economic development.”

A lifelong Red Bank resident, Millard was on the board of the North River Civic Center for more than 10 years and was a member of the Red Bank Historical Society. He was also a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.

“He was loved by many and he’ll be missed,” Pierce said.
