Elected officials in District 3 are interested in becoming more engaged with the people they represent. City Councilman Ken Smith, Hamilton County Commissioner Marty Haynes and School Board Representative Greg Martin are teaming up to host the first “District 3 Dialogue” event at Hixson United Methodist Church Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
“I believe it’s the first of its kind,” Smith said of the event, the idea for which sprang from community input. “There is a desire for more access to and more frequent updates from elected officials.”
At the the “Dialogue,” each official plans to give a five- to 10-minute introduction and update on what is going on in the district, he said. The officials then plan to talk about whatever attendees want to discuss, said Smith.
“It’s really an engagement type of forum,” he said. “It won’t be just us talking. We hope people will ask questions about issues that concern them and tell us what we need to do to help the community and meet their needs.”
Smith said he and the other officials plan to hold a District 3 Dialogue at least once a year, perhaps more often if this initial event is a success.
