The caboose in Soddy-Daisy’s North Park is due for a facelift, says City Manager Hardie Stulce, who asked the City Commission for permission to look at the possibility of renovating the caboose and moving it to a spot where it would get more use.
The caboose was acquired for the city by a former mayor and has been sitting in a muddy area of the North Park locked and unused ever since, he said.
“It’s not accessible, it’s not lighted and it’s not usable,” said Stulce. “It needs to be moved, in my opinion. I want to look at what it will cost and see if we can have someone do the work on it.”
Commissioner Geno Shipley said that in its current condition the caboose is useless to everyone.
“It was never utilized to its full potential,” said Stulce.
“I think it’s worth exploring,” said Commissioner Jim Adams. “We’ll definitely put it to better use than it has been.”
