Soddy-Daisy discusses road resurfacing

The city of Soddy-Daisy is planning ahead to assure matching funds will be available from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency for needed resurfacing projects.

“Every five years, the regional plan for the Hamilton County tri-state area is updated, and this is when we request funds,” said City Manager Hardie Stulce. “Prior to requesting the funds the city has to commit to paying 20 percent.”

The city therefore passed resolutions committing funds to three projects at the March 7 commission meeting.

One project is the resurfacing of Dayton Pike from Highway 27 south to Pottery Lane and the No. 3 Fire Hall south to Highway 153.

The full cost is $2,172,290; $434,458 of which will be the city’s responsibility.

The repaving of Old Hixson Pike was also requested, and the city will pay $60,000 out of a total cost of $303,500.

Another resurfacing project will also be requested for Dallas Hollow Road from Sequoyah Access Road north to Hixson Pike. The cost is $784,400 in total; $156,880 of which will be paid by the city.
