The third time was the charm for Tennessee-based, 75-and-up softball team the Legends.
This summer, the team comprised of 18 players, five of whom come from the Chattanooga area, claimed first place at the National Senior Games. Although the team has made it to the National Senior Games three times in recent years, this was the first time the team finished as the champion.
“We won 22 to four,” said Hixson resident Jack Gibson, the team’s coach and manager since 1999. “We beat six other teams from six other areas.”
He said the Legends’ keys to success are staying active and loving the game. With practice two times a week most of the year, it’s hard not to stay active, he added.
“What I like best is the fellowship we share and the love for softball,” said Gibson. “We’ve all been playing most of our lives and enjoy it.”
