The Gear Closet, a place to donate, consign or purchase used outdoor clothing and equipment, opens on the North Shore Saturday, Sept. 21.
A project benefiting the Caribbean Student Environmental Alliance and TenneSEA Kids 4 Clean Water programs, the Gear Closet’s proceeds go toward educating children locally and abroad on why clean water is important and how to clean up contaminated water, said Mary Beth Sutton, the program’s director.
“It’s basically anything you could use to enjoy the outdoors,” she said of the store’s selection, which includes a wide range of items such as Frisbees, boots, snowboards, backpacks, coolers and water skis.
The Gear Closet accepts items for donation or consignment during regular business hours Fridays from 4-8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gear can also be dropped off at Outdoor Chattanooga or the Mountain Arts Community Center on Signal Mountain.
Store manager Chris Calhoun is available to transport large items and can be reached at 414-1292.
