The city of Ringgold is planning sewer improvements in 2014 with the help of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
Ringgold City Manager Dan Wright said he is requesting 2014 SPLOST funding for the following subdivisions within the city: Battlefield Parkway Estates, Crestwood/Hill Crest, Misty Ridge, Poplar Springs, Stonecrest, Woodgate East and the Robert E. Lee Drive area.
“That would provide service to 882 lots,” said Wright. “The timeline would be determined by funding since the funds come in over 72 months.”
He said the city and county typically start engineering and designing one project at a time as funds are available, then the city of Ringgold bids it out and starts the next project.
“SPLOST has been very instrumental to the city of Ringgold over the last decade,” said Wright. “Without SPLOST many of the water lines in the city would have not been upgraded along with major improvements at the water treatment plant. SPLOST has also been instrumental in expanding sewer service into many areas that otherwise would not have sewer service. SPLOST has allowed the city property taxes to stay very low along with water and sewer rates.”
He said in the last few years through SPLOST funding the following subdivisions received sewer service: Morris Estates, Groves, Blevins Acres, Townsend Estates, Townsend Place and Meadow Green.
“Currently the county and city are working on design, permitting and easement acquisition on the following areas: [the] Woods Road area, Three Notch Road, Lehon Estates, Three Notch Road Estates, Melody Estates and Foster Hill,” said Wright.
