For the first time ever, Signal Mountain Middle/High School is the site for the annual Hoops for Hope fundraiser benefiting the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.
Held at Baylor School its first three years, the event will have eight girls’ basketball teams from local schools playing throughout the day.
This year’s fourth event is scheduled for Dec. 8 beginning at 1 p.m., but those interested in attending only have until Nov. 9 to purchase a T-shirt that grants them free admission to all the games. Available with long sleeves for $15 and short sleeves for $10, the shirts were designed by members of the Lady Eagles basketball team, who are taking all the orders.
Tickets for individual games will also be sold at each related event for $5.
“I think it’s going to be a really fun event,” said Arlina Hensley, who organized this year’s Hoops for Hope along with fellow parent volunteer Amy Sowell. “There’s going to be a lot of really great teams.”
“The Signal Mountain Lady Eagles are really excited they had a donor give pink uniforms for the event,” she said, adding that the Signal Mountain Lions Club is generously offering members’ volunteer services in the concessions stand.
Everyone can contribute by placing a “Nothing but Net” ad in the event program. The ads are intended for people to honor or make a dedication to women they are close to whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. Ad submissions are also due by Nov. 9.
“[Hoops for Hope] is giving the girls an opportunity to play on behalf of someone special,” said Hensley. “I think it will be a good event for them.”
The event is organized entirely by parent volunteers, and funds will go toward a MaryEllen Locher Foundation Scholarship intended for children of mothers who are breast cancer patients or survivors. The recipient is a student athlete who will be announced that night, said Hensley.
To place an ad contact Amy Sowell at email@example.com or 309-4289. Deadline to be included in the program is Nov. 9.
