The city of Soddy-Daisy has established a Parks and Recreation Board to assist in the grant application process to fund improvements to various parks throughout the city.
“We’re looking at several projects,” said Mayor Jim Adams, adding that the board will have its first meeting in the coming weeks. “[Applying for grants] takes some planning and follow-up.”
Possible projects include developing the property near Fire Hall No. 1 as well as the area commonly referred to as the “County Park” near Soddy Lake.
The city would also like to make improvements to the park next to City Hall, which many would eventually like to see connected with the Cumberland Trail.
The nine community members nominated by city commissioners to serve on the new board chaired by Commissioner Rick Nunley will continue to work on acquiring grants to make the planned projects a reality, sad Adams.
Soddy-Daisy was recently denied a $150,000 grant applied for last year to make improvements to Holly Park, where a multi-use paved trail was planned, City Manager Hardie Stulce said.
Members of the new Parks and Recreation Board include Fire Chief Steve Grant, Steve Smith, Carlos Wilson, Dr. Patti Skates, Ken Rose, Robert Cothran, Sara Burriss and Tony Sneed.
