The Lone Oak Community Center is planning its first Trash to Treasure community yard sale fundraiser for Saturday, May 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event co-chair Kim Lockhart said the center will rent booth spaces to vendors in the same manner as it does for the annual Highway 127 sale in August.
“This is more for the community to come out and be together and help out the community center,” said Lockhart of how this sale, held only on community center property, differs from the August sale encompassing all of Highway 127. “It’s important to support our community center, because it supports so many.”
The money raised through the $15 fee vendors are charged to rent a 10-by-20-foot booth space will go toward the center’s operation, including maintenance of the building and programs such as its free health clinic, GED classes and volunteer fire department.
“We’ve had a great response so far,” said Lockhart of participating vendors, whose wares include a variety of items from antiques to crafts to woodworking. “I hope we can make it into an event we have twice a year.”
Vendors are prohibited from selling firearms or food, she said.
The Lone Oak firefighters will be on hand to save attendees from hunger with the sale of hot dogs, chips and soft drinks to benefit the Fire Department.
Vendors pay the booth rental fee in cash at the gate, which opens for vendor setup at 6 a.m. Booth locations are first-come, first-served, said Lockhart.
