Dub’s Place kicks off summer with first backyard barbecue party

Dub’s Place is ready to party this summer, beginning with its first communitywide barbecue party Saturday, June 23 from 2 p.m. until attendees are ready to leave.

“I want to try to do barbecue parties once a month for the summer if there’s a good, big turnout and everybody’s enjoying it,” said owner Jordan Miller.

Dub’s Place owner Jordan Miller is holding his first barbecue party in the area around the restaurant, open to the entire community, June 23 from 2 p.m. until the fun ends.

He said he plans to shut the restaurant’s kitchen down for that day, though Dub’s legendary ice cream will still be available.

With a smoker on loan for the occasion by regular customer Jack Workman, Miller said he will spend the Friday before the event smoking pork butts and half chickens. He also plans to serve classic backyard barbecue-style sides such as coleslaw, baked beans and corn on the cob.

“It’s going to be a good time,” said Miller. “The music’s going to be awesome and the food’s going to be killer.”

A small cover charge will include a plate of food as well as entertainment provided by local blues guitarist Mark Porkchop Holder and friends. Balloons will be given out to children attending the family-friendly event, said Miller.

“If you’re a motorcycle rider, bring your bike,” he said, adding that the area surrounding the restaurant will be reserved for motorcycles (car drivers will be directed to another parking area).

Miller said he will hold a motorcycle contest in which the owner of the best-looking bike receives a free lunch or dinner. He said he is also working to establish Dub’s as a post-Nightfall hangout for the motorcycle crowd.

“I’m a biker and I like those types of people and want to do something nice for them,” he said.
