A representative from Erlanger gives out information about local health programs to residents of Chattanooga City Council Districts 7, 8 and 9 during a previous Sweet Diversity event. Originally centered around food, the Sweet Diversity event has grown to include representatives from local businesses and organizations within the community.
The free multicultural community event will be at the Chattanooga Zoo, located at 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave., Thursday June 7 from 6-8 p.m.
The event includes admission to the zoo and an opportunity to meet other neighbors, local business owners and organizations who are exhibiting at Sweet Diversity.
“It’s a mechanism for people to get to know other people in their district in a fun atmosphere with fellowship and a reception feel,” said city of Chattanooga Office of Multicultural Affairs Director Beverly Cosley. “It’s a great way to get input from the various communities that make up Chattanooga.”
Exhibitors are asked to bring a dish or dessert that represents the cultural heritage of their organization or business. Regular attendees are also encouraged to bring a dish to share with the group.
“It’s a great way for businesses and organizations to give back in appreciation to the area that supports them,” said Cosley. “We have found that each Sweet Diversity event has its own unique flavor as far as a cultural experience.”
This is the fifth annual Sweet Diversity event presented by the city of Chattanooga Office of Multicultural Affairs in an effort to showcase diversity in the area and bring people from diverse backgrounds together.
