Pie Slingers tossing new Fort Oglethorpe location into the mix

The highly anticipated Fort Oglethorpe location of Pie Slingers Pizzeria is having its grand opening July 14.

“It took six years of practice, tweaking and now we have something we are extremely proud of,” said Skip Welsh, who co-owns the independent restaurant chain which has locations in Rock Spring and on Signal Mountain. “Pizza is a big-time family food and we commit to quality and the experience.”

Mathilda McSpadden, namesake of Pie Slingers’ Mathilda Madness, which comes with fresh spinach, crumbled bacon, mushrooms and black olives, and owners Skip Welsh and Jennifer McSpadden, from left, welcome the community to the July 14 grand opening of the local pizzeria’s newest location in Fort Oglethorpe.

The pizzeria is home to hand-tossed pizzas, “crazy-good” pastas, fresh salads and delicious desserts. The largest size offered, the behemoth, a 28-inch pizza big enough to feed the whole family — and then some; the restaurant’s signature Godfather pizza pie; and its “to die for” lasagna are among the many crowd favorites, Welsh said.

Using only the freshest ingredients, sauce and dough made in-house and high-grade cheese, Pie Slingers serves made-to-order pizzas topped with various flavor “personalities” in a fun yet casual, family-oriented setting. The décor itself is a conversational piece and there are no televisions to take attention away from dinnertime conversations, Welsh said.

“We want to create raving fans and be known for a quality of service they can’t find anywhere else,” he said. “We can’t do everything, but we try to do better than everyone else.”

In addition to offering pizza, which can be enjoyed in the dining room or taken home and baked in one’s own kitchen, the restaurant has expanded its menu to include pasta dishes, some with made-from-scratch pesto, and seasonal salads. Guests will soon have a selection of beers and wines to choose from; Welsh said the restaurant’s beer permit should be approved within the next month. In the meantime, he and co-owner Jennifer McSpadden are still taste-testing possible selections in order to perfectly complement their menu.

“We are recognized as someone who is a part of the community, whether it is involvement with schools, recreation leagues, church, [which] is why we decided to keep opening more,” Welsh said. “When you see the lives it changes, you can’t buy that.”

Pie Slingers is currently hiring inside help, teaching and cross-training individuals on everything from how to ring up items to making an order. Delivery drivers are also needed.
