The Audubon Acres Neighborhood Association invites all East Brainerd residents to a public meeting Feb. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. to discuss several community-wide issues.
According to Chattanooga Neighborhood Association Council President Lana Sutton, who is hosting the event, the group will discuss in depth a rezoning proposal for the corner of East Brainerd Road and Panorama Drive.
Matt Hullander, president and owner of Hullco Exteriors, which sits at the edge of the property in question, is requesting a rezoning from R-1 small-density residential to C-2 commercial with exceptions. If approved, he plans to build a “small neighborhood mixed use development” of offices and a small, high-end retailer and convert one of the existing houses into office space.
“We bought into a neighborhood and what we’re getting is a hell’s version of Candy Land,” Sutton said of overall development in the East Brainerd area. “We’re tired of seeing low-end stuff come in and drag down our property values.”
In addition to that rezoning proposal Sutton said the group will also discuss crime in the area, potential development along the greenway, traffic and upcoming events and programs at Audubon Acres.
“Even if people don’t want to talk about the negative things in the community, I’d encourage them to come out, because we’ve got something to be proud of,” said Sutton of Audubon Acres. “We’ve got a beautiful amenity here. It’s an amazing ecological feature you can’t find anywhere else in Hamilton County.”
