Anthony Foskey, Richard Peterson and Steve Anderson originally opened Mack Smith Tires at Steele Road to weather the economic storm, and now they say they’re in it for the long haul.
Foskey said their basic offering of tires, brakes, oil changes and batteries, has quadrupled in sales since the shop opened in April.
“We’re definitely on the incline,” he said.
He said used tires are most in demand. The tires come from other customers so he charges only for mounting and balancing. A 90-day financing plan has helped customers keep their cars on the road in hard times, he said.
Mack Smith Tires participates in Ringgold High School’s co-op program, too. The secretary goes to school half a day and then works at the shop four days a week.
A former vice president of the local Home Builders Association, Foskey and Peterson were builders in the residential real estate industry until spring when the drop became too steep.
“There were no jobs so we created jobs,” Peterson said.
When the “banks loosen up,” Foskey said, they’ll begin to build homes again but plan to keep Mack Smith Tires open.
“We will not give this up,” he said. “We’re hear to stay. No matter what you do, everybody’s going to need tires.”
Mack Smith Tires is at 1095 Mack Smith Road. For more information call (706) 820-6246.
