Rep. Richard Floyd honors legendary University of Tennessee swimming coach Ray Bussard

Rep. Richard Floyd (R-Chattanooga) honored legendary University of Tennessee swimming coach Ray Bussard on the floor of the State House of Representatives Monday night.

Rep. Floyd said he was delighted to bring Coach Bussard to the floor to present a House Resolution to him, and that it was particularly touching.

“Coach Bussard is not only decorated with numerous awards over twenty-one seasons, but he was also an inspiration to many students—and I would know, because I was one of them,” said Representative Floyd. “Coach Bussard had a very positive influence on me and so many other students, and he deserves some recognition for that.”

Coach Bussard was joined on the House floor by his family, friends, and former swimmers. He notched eighty-five consecutive dual meet wins, eight SEC championships, nine undefeated teams, two NCAA national championship runner-ups in 1973 and 1976, and one NCAA national championship in 1978 at the University of Tennessee.

Rep. Floyd is currently serving his second term in the State House of Representatives. He represents part of Hamilton County, and serves on the House Conservation and Environment Committee, and the House Transportation Committee.
