DAYTON: Scopes trial remembered through play, music

Thanks to Tom Morgan and Curtis Lipps, there will be a 22nd annual Scopes Festival July 17 and 18. Mr. Lipps has written a historically accurate play that dramatizes events leading up to the world-famous trial and highlighting the efforts of the Dayton community to recover from the effects of the bankruptcy of its largest employer. Mr. Morgan will once again organize traditional music performances by area musicians. Music on the courthouse lawn will be free throughout Friday evening and Saturday. The play, “One Hot Summer,” in the main courtroom will cost $5.
