Career coach Marcel Schwantes has a shot of encouragement for professionals making a career change or trying to jump back into the work force.
His career management workshop offered Tuesdays in September at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church will teach job seekers how to organize a job search, market themselves and stay motivated.
Professional life coach Marcel Schwantes will present a career management workshop Tuesdays in September at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church.
“People don’t realize it’s an actual process,” Schwantes said. “The organizational part of your job search starts with assessing where you are.”
After narrowing down what kind of job to look for, Schwantes said, job seekers have to know how to navigate an online job board. A well-tailored resume will actually generate job alerts for you, he said.
Next, he said the interview process has recognizable stages, and hair, clothes and conversation skills count.
“Interviewing is almost a science,” Schwantes said.
He said people completing his classes will walk out more marketable, motivated and empowered.
“The job world is constantly shifting and evolving, and you have to stay up to par,” Schwantes said. “I hope I can bring that to the surface.”
He said career coaching and life coaching contain elements of psychology, but they are not therapy or counseling. Schwantes said he tries to help people through a process of self-discovery, so they can design their own futures.
Schwantes moved to Ooltewah with his wife, Noelle, from Los Angeles, where he was a human resources professional. He holds a bachelor’s in communication, a master’s in organizational behavior and a certification in life coach training. He has also worked in organizational psychology, team-building training and leadership development.
